Chef, Culinary Historian; Founder, Black Culinary History

Thérèse Nelson is a chef, writer and culinary historian, and the founder of Black Culinary History, an organization documenting and celebrating the contributions of Black chefs and cooks to American food. She trained in professional kitchens and has written for Eater, Bon Appétit and other publications.
Her work recovers the names and stories of cooks written out of the record, and connects food history to questions of legacy, family and what gets passed down.
