Frank Ostaseski

Frank Ostaseski

Frank Ostaseski is a Buddhist teacher, author and a founding figure in American contemplative end-of-life care. In 1987 he co-founded the Zen Hospice Project, the first Buddhist hospice in the United States, and in 2004 he founded the Metta Institute to train healthcare clinicians in compassionate, spiritually grounded care of the dying.

He has guided thousands of people through their dying and has taught at medical schools, hospices and meditation centers around the world. He was honored by the Dalai Lama for his work, and his book The Five Invitations: Discovering What Death Can Teach Us About Living Fully is an international bestseller translated into more than a dozen languages. His teaching holds that death is not waiting for us at the end of a long road but is always with us, and is the great teacher of how to live.
