Psychiatrist, Psychedelic Researcher, NYU

Stephen Ross is a psychiatrist and associate professor at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, where he directs psychedelic research and has led landmark trials of psilocybin-assisted therapy for cancer-related anxiety, depression and existential distress. His 2016 study found that a single dose produced rapid and enduring reductions in distress in people with life-threatening cancer.
He also directs addiction psychiatry programs at NYU and Bellevue, and has continued to study psilocybin for alcohol use disorder and for demoralization at the end of life.
