Architect; Founding Principal, MASS Design Group

Michael Murphy is an architect and the founding principal of MASS Design Group, a nonprofit architecture practice whose projects include the Butaro District Hospital in Rwanda, designed to reduce airborne disease transmission, and the National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Montgomery, Alabama.
His practice argues that buildings are never neutral — that hospitals, memorials and care settings either advance healing and dignity or undermine them. His TED Talk on architecture that heals has been widely viewed.
