Nurse; Creator, The Medical Pause

Jonathan Bartels is a trauma and palliative care nurse who created The Medical Pause, a brief moment of silence taken by a clinical team after a patient dies. The practice began in his own trauma bay in Virginia and has since been adopted by hospitals around the world.
He speaks and teaches on moral injury, ritual and resilience in healthcare, arguing that clinicians need a way to acknowledge a death before moving to the next patient.
