Hank Willis Thomas

Hank Willis Thomas is a conceptual artist working primarily with themes of identity, history, popular culture and visual media. His work is held in more than fifty public collections, and his public art includes The Embrace, the memorial to Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King on Boston Common.

He is a co-founder of the artist-run super PAC For Freedoms, which uses art to encourage civic participation. Much of his early work grew out of the murder of his cousin, and he has spoken about how grief and remembrance sit underneath his practice.
