Screenwriter (1937–2024)

David Seidler was a screenwriter who won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for The King's Speech, a story he carried for decades and drew from his own childhood stutter, which developed after his family fled wartime London. He was 73 when he won, at the time the oldest recipient of the award in that category.
His earlier credits included Tucker: The Man and His Dream and Come On, Get Happy. A bladder cancer survivor, he spoke often about persistence, illness and late-life creative work. He died on March 16, 2024, at 86.
