Adjoa Boateng Evans, MD

Dr. Boateng Evans is an intensive care physician, anesthesiologist, mother, speaker and writer whose work bridges medicine and art to restore humanism in healthcare. A Yale graduate in the History of Science and Medicine, she also trained in anesthesiology at Yale New Haven Hospital and completed a critical care fellowship at Stanford, where she was recruited to join the faculty. Now, at the Duke University School of Medicine, she continues her clinical work in the intensive care units (ICU) and operating rooms, while teaching seminars in the medical school and serving as a faculty associate with the Trent Center for Bioethics, Humanities & History of Medicine. She is the founder of Healing for Healers, a symposium that uses art to address moral injury in healthcare workers. Her scholarship and teaching explore the vulnerability at the end of life as well as the intersection of art, storytelling and medicine. A sought-after speaker and writer, she has been featured on NPR, TEDx, the Doctor’s Art Podcast, and is a regular contributor to multiple media outlets. Watch her TED Talk here.
