Chief Research Officer, Seattle Indian Health Board; Director, Urban Indian Health Institute

Abigail Echo-Hawk is the Chief Research Officer at the Seattle Indian Health Board and director of the Urban Indian Health Institute, one of twelve tribal epidemiology centers in the United States. A citizen of the Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma, she is a nationally recognized voice on Indigenous data sovereignty and on the decolonization of research methods.
Her work has documented the erasure of Native people in public health data, including landmark reporting on missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, and she has pressed health systems to treat data as a tool of Indigenous self-determination rather than something extracted from communities.
