Sustainable Death Care Pioneer

Micah Truman is the founder and CEO of Return Home, a company built on a mission to ensure that our last act on this planet is to give back to it. Return Home’s terramation process gently transforms our bodies into soil when we die. It has been a perilous, beautiful journey. With no playbook to follow, Micah assembled an Oceans 11 team of engineers, funeral directors, HVAC specialists, death doulas, general contractors, and soil scientists, and built an operation that gives families their brightest day during life’s most difficult moments.
He did not come from the death industry. An entrepreneur since 1995, Micah spent two decades in China running online technology companies before founding AsiaWise, an international real estate investment firm. He left a safe, established career to do something both harder and far more meaningful. A Seattle native and graduate of Oberlin College, he has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times, Rolling Stone, Real Time with Bill Maher, and on NPR. On Shark Tank, he pitched terramation to a deeply skeptical room. In 2026, Return Home and its work were featured in two documentaries that premiered at SXSW and the Tribeca Film Festival.
Building Return Home has been the honor of his life. He has watched families laugh, weep, hold impromptu dance parties, and cover a loved one’s vessel in LED lights. He once heard a woman sing beside her late wife like an angel. He will never be the same.
